AGENDA TITLE:

Title

Approval of Amendment No. 1 to an IGA with Maricopa County for a Radio Communications Facility.

Body

Council Goals or Other Policies / Statutory Requirements:

Public Safety - Improve public safety services including prevention, enforcement, communication and community/victim outreach.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Approve Amendment No. 1 to the IGA with Maricopa County for a radio communication facility.

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Town of Paradise Valley has been attempting locate a Radio Communications facility for public safety for several years.  This facility would enable radio communications between Paradise Valley Police Patrol Vehicles, Phoenix Fire Vehicles, the Town Dispatch Center, and those on the Regional Wireless Cooperative (RWC).  In 2014, the Town appeared to have identified a workable site for locating the radio communications facility.  Maricopa County is currently constructing a new radio system and approached the Town about a cooperative.  The selected location would chiefly improve communication in the Clearwater Hills area.

Since that time, the County has identified alternative technology that will meet their needs in Clearwater Hills and the Town has acquired a different location for the communication facility.  Therefore the two parties have agreed to terminate the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA).  Approval of this Amendment will terminate the agreement.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

None.  This Amendment absolves each party of any costs owed to the other party.
