AGENDA TITLE:
Title
Review and Discussion of 2017 Legislative Agenda
Body
Council Goals or Other Policies / Statutory Requirements:
Collaboration - Strengthen relationship with the State Legislature.
RECOMMENDATION:
Review, discuss and provide suggested edits to the draft 2017 Legislative Agenda.
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Annually the Town creates a Legislative Agenda to articulate the Town’s position on matters that may come before the state or federal government. This is typically most relevant to the State Legislature and its spring session.
Of particular concern in the upcoming session are issues of construction sales tax (also known as TPT), PSPRS reform, and use of right-of-ways for telecommunications companies. The Town also remains vigilant in protecting existing interests such as revenue sharing and police technology. The attached draft document provides a comprehensive list of issues and positions for Mayor and Council to consider.
This study session will review the draft document and seeks suggestions on additional topics, better wording, or deletions. The final version is scheduled to be adopted at the December 15 meeting in advance of the Legislative Breakfast on January 5, 2017.
There may be discussion on how to present the material to the legislators at that breakfast.
