SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Arizona Mutual Aid Compact (AzMAC) is a multiparty intergovernmental agreement between the AzDEMA and many participating counties, cities, towns, tribal governments and fire districts. The agreement assures that Arizona's public safety, when faced with an emergency incident that could exceed a single jurisdiction's ability, can quickly and efficiently request, provide and be reimbursed for mutual aid in an orderly fashion by using procedures that they all understand and have agreed upon in advance of the incident. The Town of Paradise Valley desires to be a signatory on the AzMAC.

Short-term mutual aid between law enforcement agencies occurs frequently by a phone call or police radio request. During short-term mutual aid, reimbursement is not sought by the provider. The AzMAC covers long-term mutual aid and provides the ability for a providing agency to seek reimbursement from the requesting agency. For example, the AzMAC could assist Paradise Valley Police maintain resident safety if a significant percentage of Paradise Valley police personnel were unavailable due to illness.

The AzMAC runs in ten-year periods and would need to be reapproved by the Council in 2030. The AzMAC becomes effective as soon as the IGA is approved and executed by the Town. The IGA will also need to be filed with the Secretary of State.
