Discussion of Remote Participation in Public Meetings

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

On March 17, 2020, the Town Council adopted Resolution Number 2020-08; directing staff to prepare a Public Meeting Action Plan (Plan) for the purpose of facilitating remote participation in meetings by members of the public and members of the Town’s public bodies.   The Plan is in response to Declarations of Emergency issued by the President of the United States and the Governor of Arizona to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is slowed as much as practicable. 

 

Consistent with the CDC’s recommendation, the Mayor and Council believe it is in the best interest of public health to temporarily suspend in-person public meetings.  As an alternative, public bodies will hold meetings electronically while continuing to encourage public comment and participation.

 

The purpose of this Study Session is to test conferencing equipment and validate that all Council Members can join and participate in public meetings remotely.  No policy matters will be discussed and no votes will be taken.
