Authorize the Mayor to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with the Paradise Valley Public Safety Foundation to create a 501©3 for the benefit of Paradise Valley First Response Organizations.
Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Paradise Valley has many generous residents who have an affinity for high-quality police services. Those residents also are very giving with their financial success. The Town has an IRS status as a government unit and as such, can accept charitable contributions under IRS code 170©1. However, this presents some complications with public perception and law enforcement. Creating a Public Safety Foundation classified by the IRS as a 501©3 and governed by an independent board might be a better alternative.
This action item will allow the Town to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Paradise Valley Public Safety Foundation to create a 501©3.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
There is no budgetary impact to the Town to enter this MOU with the Paradise Valley Public Safety Foundation.
