Council Goals or Statutory Requirements:

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Adopt Ordinance No. 2018-04 amending §15-2-12 of the Town Code to eliminate the words “pool water” from the “Prohibited Substances” section of the Town Code, to allow for the discharge of swimming pool water into the sewer system.

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Background

During the Council Study Session on March 8, 2018, Council received information and discussed eliminating the words “pool water” from the “Prohibited Substances” section of §15-2-12(A) of the Town Code.  The Council acknowledged that residents do have difficulties with finding appropriate places to discharge their swimming pools and that this small change to Town Code §15-2-12(A) will help many residents who are sanitary sewer customers either of the Town or the City of Phoenix to drain their swimming pools when such is needed.

Based on the foregoing, it is recommended that the Council approve Ordinance No. 2018-04 allowing for the amendment of the Town of Paradise Valley Municipal Code, §Section 15-2-12, by striking the words, “pool water,” from Section 15-2-12(A).  It is also recommended the Town staff widely disseminate the new information on the ability of residents to drain their pools into the sanitary sewer system along with recommendations on how to safely do such.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

 None.
