AGENDA TITLE:

Title

2018 Legislative Agenda

Body

Council Goals

Strengthen Relationships with State Legislators

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Annually the Town creates a Legislative Agenda to articulate the Town’s position on matters that may come before the state or federal government.  This is typically most relevant to the State Legislature and its spring session.

Of continuing concern in the upcoming session are issues of construction sales tax (also known as TPT), protecting existing interests such as revenue sharing and police technology, and preserving and resolving the ability to appropriately manage zoning and land use.

This study session will provide an opportunity to reflect on the outcomes of the 2017 legislative session and to discuss these and other potential legislative issues, as well as strategies to address them in the upcoming 2018 session.  Staff can then draft a legislative agenda based on the Council discussion to bring back to Council for their approval in advance of the Legislative Breakfast on December 15, 2017.
