Recommendation
Authorize the Mayor to execute an IGA between the Town of Paradise Valley and City of Tempe permitting Paradise Valley Municipal Court to participate in the East Valley Regional Veterans Court held at Tempe Municipal Court and authorizing the use and payment of City of Tempe judicial officers to adjudicate Paradise Valley’s veterans court cases.
Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Paradise Valley Municipal Court is seeking authorization to participate in the East Valley Regional Veterans Court (“ERVC”) for the purposes of expediting cases involving veterans, regionalizing resources for veterans, improving the administration of justice, and to use and pay Tempe judicial officers to adjudicate Paradise Valley Municipal Court cases.
Paradise Valley Municipal Court has participated in EVRC since 2016. Fiscal Year 2019 will be the first year the treatment court will not be 100% grant funded which requires participating courts to establish a cost sharing agreement with the City of Tempe. Paradise Valley Municipal Court’s estimated cost-sharing amount for next fiscal year is $250.00.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
There is no impact to the Town’s general fund. The estimated cost of $250.00 will be financed by the Judicial Court Enhancement Fund (JCEF) that is budgeted for $2,500.00 next fiscal year.
