AGENDA TITLE:

Title

Appointment to the PV Arts Board

Body

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Appoint Mary Hamway to fill the unexpired term on the PV Arts Board through March 2020.

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Paradise Valley Arts Advisory Committee was initially created by the Town Council in July 1999 and subsequently renamed the PV Arts Board in 2018.  The Organizational Guidelines state that the Board shall be comprised of a minimum of seven volunteers appointed by the Town Council to serve three-year terms at the pleasure of the Town Council.  The Guidelines also provide that membership may be increased or reduced from time to time.  For the past two years there have been nine members.

Board Members Georgann Byrd and Diana Georgelos, who have served on the Board since 2010 and 2017 respectively, have decided to step down before the end of their terms in 2020, thus creating two vacancies.

Mary Hamway served as liaison to the Board while she was on Council and has expressed interest in filling one of the vacancies.  Chair Janie Russo, Mayor Bien-Willner, and Council Liaison Mark Stanton recommend that the Council appoint Ms. Hamway to fill one of the vacancies.  It is further recommended that the other seat remain unfilled at this time.
