Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:
In May 2018, the Police Department partnered with Special Olympics Arizona to hold a Torch Run and Community Carnival. This type of event leans on active members of the community to plan and execute. Community Resource Officer Steven McGhee found Christine Salehi to be an energetic presence while planning the carnival. The Salehi family assisted the police department when officers needed to stage a welfare check on the petting zoo animals for a media release. The Salehi family was again critical in securing donations from their business to assure each child at the carnival left with a prize and provided their own staffing to run carnival games. Additionally, the Salehi family provided and staged a rehydration station with drinks and snacks for over 100 volunteers at the Torch Run and Community Carnival.

At the carnival, even young Dash Salehi was touched by the speech about Special Olympics to the point of donating his own prizes and candy from the carnival to the Special Olympics athletes. All members of the Salehi family contributed in their own way to the success of the event.

Members of the Salehi family are also active in the Parent Organization at Cherokee Elementary School, active in the school's autism awareness week, Autism Speaks, and spearheaded the planning of the Literary Landmark Designation at Cherokee in 2017.

The Salehi family has donated many hours to the betterment of the Paradise Valley Community and I would like to present them with a Community Service Award.
