RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Make appointments to fill the vacancies on ACOPS and PSPRS

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Mayor Collins will present his nominees to fill vacancies on ACOPS and PSPRS in the Study Session.  The appointments must be confirmed by the Council.

The Advisory Committee on Public Safety (ACOPS) was created by Council Resolution 1330 on March 26, 2015.  ACOPS is made up of six citizen members, nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council, and one Councilmember serving as chair.

Committee Member Jennifer Schwarz resigned in March 2016.  The Council conducted a one-year review of ACOPS at a Study Session on May 26, 2016 and discussed the vacancy.  It was decided to wait until the fall to consider appointing a replacement.

The Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Board (PSPRS) considers requests by officers for admission into public safety retirement system as well as requests for regular and disability retirements.  The three citizen members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.

John Lomax resigned from the PSPRS Board in September 2016.  He was appointed in 2015.  The person appointed to fill the vacancy will fill out the remainder of the term which expires in 2019.
