Authorize the Town Manager to execute a contract with Markham Contracting in an amount of $183,362.41.
Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The McDonald Drive Culvert Extension Project has been in the Capital Improvement Plan since 2012 and is located on the north side of McDonald Drive between Marston Drive and 45th Street (see Attachment A for Project Location Map and Photos). The main goal of the project is to remove the westbound approach guardrail from protruding into the roadway. The existing box culvert will be extended four feet to the north, allowing for a wider sidewalk in the area and accommodating a new guardrail to be installed behind the existing sidewalk as shown on the attached Construction Documents (Attachment B).
The project is expected to take four weeks to complete once a Notice to Proceed is issued. It will require the westbound lane of McDonald Drive to be closed for three weeks to allow for temporary approach protection (jersey barriers) to ensure the traveling motorists are safeguarded from crashing into the wash once the existing guardrail is removed.
The Engineering Department has coordinated with the Public Works Department regarding the impact of this project and the mill and overlay project. This project will be completed one week prior to the mill and overlay of the road.
Staff is delivering this project via a JOC, an alternative construction delivery method as defined by A.R.S. Title 34 Chapter 6. The Town will be utilizing an existing City of Peoria contract with Markham Contracting which includes a Cooperative Purchasing clause (Attachment C). Markham Contracting was selected by Peoria through a competitive qualifications based process in accordance with State Statutes.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
This project is budgeted in the FY2017/18 Capital Improvement Program for $205,000. The approval of this contract will cost the Town $183,362.41.
