Authorize to the Town Manager to sign the agreement with Maricopa County to allow for law enforcement data sharing.

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

In FY 2017, the police department budgeted $50,000 to purchase Cop Link software in order to share data with other agencies in the Cop Link system.  The Cop Link software allows officers and dispatchers to gather more in-depth information than the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).  For example, where NCIC will tell the officer whether a person is wanted and what that individual is wanted for, Cop Link will give specifics of the person’s criminal past, including report narratives.  Cop Link is an investigative tool that will aide in working regionally to solve regional crimes that affect Paradise Valley.  For example, burglars do not know town limits and frequently cross jurisdictional boundaries.  Cop Link will allow officers to query information housed at law enforcement agencies to seek for matching crime types with similar circumstances. 

 

Before the Town can purchase the software, a data sharing agreement needs to be in place.  This item is a law enforcement data sharing agreement between the Town of Paradise Valley and Maricopa County, which allows officers to use the Cop Link data, and shares our data with other agencies on the Cop Link system.

 

 

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

There is no budgetary impact to signing the law enforcement data sharing agreement.
