RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Recognition of Council Member Mary Hamway and Vice Mayor Dave Sherf

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

DAVE SHERF

Dave Sherf was appointed to council in 2012 for a two-year term to replace Council Member Vernon Parker who resigned. In 2014 he ran for and was elected for the two-year Council term.  He has been the Vice Mayor in 2016.  During his tenure, Vice Mayor Sherf’s knowledge of the resort industry served as an invaluable asset as the Town managed the redevelopment of Mountain Shadows, Cottonwoods and reviewed the planning submittals of the Ritz Carlton.  In his last term, Mr. Sherf has led a number of quality of life issues including mitigating the negative neighborhood effects of short term rentals and scattered trash hauling services.  As Vice Mayor he has acted as the council liaison to the Planning Commission.  He also worked on the annual Town Manager and Town Attorney performance reviews.

MARY HAMWAY

Mary Hamway was elected to serve as a member of the Town Council in 2004.  During her tenure she was elected to serve as Vice Mayor twice.  In 2012 she did not seek re-election to pursue other endeavors.  However, when Council Member Dan Schweiker moved to Scottsdale in 2014, she was appointed to complete his term that expires in 2016.  Council Member Hamway has been an effective and strong voice for action on many projects that will have a long and lasting impact on the Town of Paradise Valley. During this last term, she was particularly focused on storm water management.  This focus has led to greater awareness of the scope and scale of storm water challenges in Paradise Valley.
