Providing High Quality Public Safety starts with furnishing quality equipment to the patrol division.  This purchase will replace four vehicles that have reached the end of their service life.

Approve the purchase of four (4) 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes for the Police Department (PD). The four (4) Tahoes will be used primarily as Police patrol vehicles. 

Background

 

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Police Department - The new 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe Police patrol vehicles will replace four (4) Chevrolet Tahoe Police patrol vehicles which currently serve as patrol and volunteer vehicles.

 

2018 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD

The four (4) new 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes will replace two (2) 2007 Chevrolet Tahoes, unit #2918-43-40 and unit #9179-44, one (1) 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe, unit #1890-45, and one (1) 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, unit #8126-46.

 

1. 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD - unit #2918-43, is being used primarily as a police volunteer vehicle. The new vehicle will go to Patrol and a current patrol vehicle will roll down to serve as a volunteer vehicle.

 

                     Purchased 10/14/2007

                     The cost to operate is $.22 per mile

                     The vehicle has an odometer reading of 137,378 miles

                     The vehicle is 10 years old

 

2. 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD - unit #9179-44, is being used primarily as a police volunteer vehicle. The new vehicle will go to Patrol and a current patrol vehicle will roll down to serve as a volunteer vehicle.

 

                     Purchased 10/14/2007

                     The cost to operate is $.24 per mile

                     The vehicle has an odometer reading of 157,481 miles

                     The vehicle is 10 years old

 

 

3. 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD - unit #1890-45, is being used primarily as a police patrol vehicle.

 

                     Purchased 6/22/2010

                     The cost to operate is $.21 per mile

                     The vehicle has an odometer reading of 153,622 miles

                     The vehicle is 7 years old

 

4. 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe 2WD - unit #8126-46, is being used primarily as a police patrol vehicle.

 

                     Purchased 6/29/2011

                     The cost to operate is $.15 per mile

                     The vehicle has an odometer reading of 145,428 miles

                     The vehicle is 6 years old

 

The cost for the four (4) 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes is $155,828. ($38,957 per unit)

 

The cost for equipment installation (lights, sirens, radios, lock boxes etc.) to the vehicles is $84,800 ($21,200 per unit)   

 

The cost to decommission the existing vehicles is $7,600 ($1,900 per unit). This cost is to remove equipment from the old vehicles (radios, antennas, LPRs, computers, etc.) and to prep the old vehicles to be sold at auction.

The Town will take advantage of the prices quoted to the State through a competitive bid process and purchase the patrol vehicles by using the Arizona State Vehicle Contract and equip the vehicles by using the Yavapai County Contract.

 

 

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

In the fiscal year 2017-18 budget, four police vehicles were requested and approved.  The total budget figure requested for this equipment was $267,847.
