Title
Award of Contract to Markham Contracting in the amount of $33,313.08 for the design of 52nd Street Improvements
Body
Council Goals or Statutory Requirements:
Develop and advance the Capital Improvement Program by maintaining, repairing and adding critical infrastructure in the town.
Improve non-motorized mobility throughout the town by identifying missing linkage to improve pedestrian / bicycle connectivity.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation
Authorize the Town Manager to execute a contract with Markham Contracting in the amount of $33,313.08
Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
This project includes a curb realignment along the western side of 52nd Street between Orchid and Tomahawk. Currently the pavement is much wider then the roadway cross section north and south of this block. By shrinking the roadway width, this roadway cross section will be consistent with the rest of 52nd Street. This also allows for the installation of a new sidewalk along this block, completing a missing pedestrian connection.
In addition to new curbs and sidewalks, this project will also relocate an existing storm drain, add ADA accessible ramps, and restripe a bike lane. A total of four residence frontages are directly affected by this project and town staff, with the design engineer, will meet with each individually to assure the new improvements are cohesive with existing landscaping and driveways.
This award is solely for the design, preconstruction services, and construction administration of the above mentioned improvements. It is expected the design will take approximately 4 months. The construction of these improvements are currently programmed in FY2016-17 and a separate Job Order Contract (JOC) will be brought before council with the construction price at a later date.
Staff is delivering this project via a JOC, an alternative construction delivery method as defined by A.R.S. Title 34 Chapter 6. The Town will be utilizing an existing City of Buckeye contract with Markham Contracting which includes a Cooperative Purchasing clause. Markham Contracting was selected by Buckeye through a competitive qualifications based process in accordance with State Statutes.
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
This item is included in the FY2015-16 Capital Improvement Plan with a budgeted amount of $50,000. This approval of this design contract will cost the town $33,313.08.
