Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Historical Advisory Committee met on October 13, 2017 to consider an application submitted by the Arts Advisory Committee honoring the McCalls and make a recommendation based on the newly adopted criteria.
The Historical Advisory Committee agreed that the McCall’s have met the criteria of contributing a tangible benefit to the Town. Robert McCall designed the stained-glass windows at Valley Presbyterian Church on McDonald Drive and also designed the stained-glass windows at the interfaith chapels at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center in Scottsdale. Louise volunteered as a member of the Arts Advisory Committee for 16 years. Both Louise and Robert McCall shared their artwork with the Town on three separate occasions in 1998, 2007 and 2010. Robert McCall donated to the Town the “Mars Outpost, 2075” which is a digital print on canvas. Louise McCall donated to the Town a watercolor painting of a mission church. Both of these donations well exceed the cost associated with any expense of their recognition. The Arts Advisory Committee has requested that a plaque be placed by a tree that will be planted on the Town Campus as part of the Arbor Day tree planting ceremony scheduled for November 2, 2017. Below is the text to be written on the plaque:
In Memory of
Robert and Louise McCall
Town of Paradise Valley Residents and world reknowned artists who exhibited their outstanding works of art at Town Hall on three separate occasions, and whose enthusiamsm and love of art enriched everyone they met during their most illustrious careers. Louise was also a valued member of the Arts Advisory Committee for 16 years.
Dedicated November 2, 2017
BUDGETARY IMPACT:
The total cost to plant the tree and install the plaque will be approximately $500.
