Background
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Town of Paradise Valley has had a long-standing relationship with Maricopa County to provide animal care and control services for Paradise Valley. In June 2018, the Town signed a three-year agreement with Maricopa County to provide care and control services for dogs and cats. Maricopa County provides services including bite investigations, bite follow up, housing of strays and returning strays to rightful owners.
The 1st Amendment to the IGA details several changes, including defining MCCAC as the enforcement agent, removing sheltering activities, adding Lost and Found services and extending response times on lower priority calls.
Sheltering activities are paid for through license fees. Paradise Valley residents license their animals through MCCAC and are therefore paying for shelter activity through their license fees.
Priority three and four response times are being extended to 48 and 72 hours respectively.
A priority three call for service includes an animal confined by a resident or a resident who calls to discuss a dog issue and has an owner's information. Eight priority three calls occurred during FY 20.
A priority four response includes leash law violations or area checks for dogs at large. Five priority four calls occurred during FY 21.
These call types are infrequent in Paradise Valley because the residents call PVPD and a police officer responds.
