AGENDA TITLE:

Title

Adoption of Ordinance Number 2016-02 and Resolution Number 2016-07 Updating to the Current International Codes

Body

Council Goals or Statutory Requirements:

Maintain and improve the Paradise Valley quality of life.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation

Suspend Town Council Policy Section VIII(b)(2), adopt Resolution 2016-07, and adopt Ordinance Number 2016-02

Background

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Every three years the International Code Council publishes a new set of construction codes.  The most recent are the 2015 editions.  It is important to adopt the most current codes to maintain a good Insurance Services Office rating.  This adoption is being done concurrently with a number of jurisdictions around the valley including the Cities of Phoenix and Scottsdale.  The building community has participated in discussions about the adoption at the regular quarterly Building Community meetings.

Town Council Policy Section VIII(b)(2) requires ordinances to be discussed in a Study Session at least one meeting prior to adoption.  However, Section XIX provides that the Council may suspend the rules by a simple majority vote.  Adoption of the 2015 International Codes at the May 26th meeting is necessary so that the Codes will become effective on July 1st consistent with other communities in the state.

BUDGETARY IMPACT:

None
